Michael Nalezny

Our second Student Spotlight for April is Michael Nalezny! 

Michael is a junior studying Hospitality and Tourism Management and is actively involved in the HTM department. Michael is involved with numerous student organizations and has had some pretty impressive internships! It is students like Michael who make HHS such a great college to be a part of.   7. Residence:  Off campus apartments
  8. How did you decide to come to Purdue?  I did the program “Purdue’s for Me” and I really liked the campus.  I then did some research about the HTM program and saw that it was one of the top ranked programs in the country, so that was the big selling point for me.
  9. What has been your favorite class?  HTM 181:  Lodging Management
  10. How do you want to make an impact while you are at Purdue?  I want to be able to be involved in as many things as possible so it gives me a chance to learn and acquire new skills as well as share my knowledge with the new students that are coming in to the school and specifically the HTM program.
  11. Recent Accomplishments:  John and Emma Tse Global Scholars Scholarship; 2 externships in Room Operations (Front Desk and Housekeeping) with Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Chicago; 1 internship with Toast Hotel Group in New Buffalo, Michigan as the Housekeeping Manager 1 upcoming internship with Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Chicago in Revenue Management; Coordinated a book drive to develop a library in Font Hill, Jamaica; American Hotel and Lodging Association Stars of the Industry Nominee; Cecil B Day Award Nominee through American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation
  12. What is one thing you would want to tell someone who is thinking of coming to Purdue?  Purdue offers so many great opportunities to the students so if there is something you would like to do, Purdue will offer it.
  13. What is your dream job?  Developing my own hotel management company that franchises all of the major hotel brands.
  14. What is your favorite Purdue memory?  Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) was a great way to start off my time at Purdue.
  15. Favorite Purdue hangout:  The Egyptian Café
  16. Words of advice for current/prospective students:  Get involved with as many things as you can while you are here at Purdue because it will give you so many opportunities to make friends, build your resume, learn new skills, etc.  Most importantly, just enjoy your time here because it goes by really quick.
