Welcome back to Purdue Boilermakers! I hope you all are having a great first few weeks of the semester. This semester has already been really crazy for me with planning our Spring Career Fair and starting to prepare to hand over the reins to my club, the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Needless to say though, it is still fun. My Martin Luther King Jr. Day actually revolved around club promoting and activities. Myself, and two other board members actually went down to Indianapolis to meet with the Indiana Hotel & Lodging Association. They wanted to get to know us and form a relationship between our student chapter and their state association. The day started by us going to the Indy Marriott and meeting with the GM, who is also the Chair for the State Association. We discussed everything that the chapter has done so far this year and also past years. After meeting with him for about an hour, we had lunch to discuss the Job Shadow Day that we are setting up for our student members. After getting all the details of the Job Shadow Day finalized, we proceeded to the roundtable meeting that they were having. We had the opportunity to meet with over 30 executives in the hotel industry just from the Indianapolis area. The three of us were able to make many contacts to hopefully help out with our careers in the future. After the meeting, we were able to meet with the State Association’s leadership team and get to know them on a personal level. They gave us advice on our career paths. Needless to say, my day off was all business, but definitely worthwhile. Until next time, Boiler Up!
