College sports are all about rivalries and the traditions that come along with them. With that being said, Purdue has one of the best rivalries in the country. The Purdue/Indiana rivalry is unlike any other…. Students on campus spend the weeks leading up to the basketball game loading up on an “artillery” of facts, figures, and comments that can be used to rebuttal all of the remarks that IU fans have. Hundreds of students roll out their sleeping bags on the sidewalks outside of Mackey Arena the night before the game, regardless of the weather, to show their Purdue spirit and pride. One quote in the school newspaper in recent years was, “Regardless of what happens the rest of the season, if we beat IU then it was a good season.” That comment is a little extreme, but win or lose, Purdue students are extremely proud of their University and it’s especially apparent during the Purdue/IU rivalry week.
