This summer has been quite busy so far and full of exciting events! During May I studied abroad in China with Dr. Leverenz and about 20 other students, most who were also athletic training but some movement and sport and applied exercise and health students as well. We went to three cities – Beijing, Longkou, and Shanghai. My favorite part of the trip was when we were in Beijing and taking classes at the Beijing Sport University. In most of our classes we were learned about traditional Chinese medicine and healing/relaxation methods including Chinese massage, acupuncture, cupping, scraping, and Tai Chi. We also visited some great sites while in Beijing, such as the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Ming Tombs, Summer Palace, and Temple of Heaven. I also loved interacting with and getting to know the students at the university. They were extremely friendly and generous hosts. They showed us around, taught us how to use the buses and subway, took us out to a great pizza place, and even took us to karaoke! I loved hanging out with the students and learning more about them and their culture. The more I got to know them the more I realized that even half way across the world they were just student like myself with similar interests, values, and hobbies. My study abroad trip was truly amazing and eye opening. I had a blast and will cherish those memories for ever!
