Winter training is in full swing for Purdue’s Rowing Team. The novice team raced in one fall head race at Head of the Eagle Regatta in Indianapolis. As a men’s team coxswain, I had two men’s boats racing that weekend, an 8-man boat and a 4-man boat. My 8 took 4th, while my 4-man boat won a gold! We were able to edge out one of our rivals, Grand Valley, in the 4s race by a pretty good margin. For fall training we were able to be out on the Wabash River training almost every day. Now we’re inside the boathouse, doing erg (rowing machine) workouts, strength (core and weightlifting), and flexibility exercises. I love working out with the guys or coaching them through workouts. Can’t wait to get back out on the water!
